Nord- und Südhalle Ostbahnhof Berlin, Deutschland

Ostbahnhof

Berlin, Germany

S-Bahn station / long-distance and regional train station

The complex renovation work at Berlin Ostbahnhof is still underway. The renovation project includes the complete renovation of the arched roof structure. The tendons of the old trusses at the north and south platforms had to be replaced due to structural necessity.

Due to the high design loads of the HMR750 Tension Rod System, the diameters of the rods were reduced compared to the original design. HMR Jacob's solution helped the customer to achieve significant cost savings.

Material

HMR750 Tension Rod Systems

Thread sizes:

  • M85, M64, M56 were used as a new truss system both at the north and south platforms
  • Vertical sag Tension Rods were used in diameter M24
  • Cost reduction: due to our high design loads it was possible to reduce the diameters

guaranteed design load: up to 2799 kN

special components:

  • The trusses were supplied with HMR750 turnbuckles to allow for longer pin to pin lengths and more adjustment

HMR Corrosion Protection

  • Systems hot-dip galvanised to DIN EN ISO 1461 in accordance with corrosivity category C3H
  • Special HMR thread coating corresponding to hot-dip galvanising => high corrosion protection and durability of the systems

Prestressing

  • All Tension Rods were prestressed with the HMR prestressing equipment up to a load of 500 kN
